SKARSGARD
Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård was born in Stockholm on the 25th of August 1976. He is a Swedish actor.
Best known for his role as Eric Northman on the television series True Blood , Alexander has appeared on the big screen in supporting roles in numerous films, including Zoolander, Melancholia, What Maisie Knew, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, and starring roles in
The Legend of Tarzan, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Northman . In 2017, he starred in the television series Big Little Lies , for which he won an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics' Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series. In 2020, he landed the role of the evil demon Randall Flagg in the television miniseries The Stand , based on the horror novel by Stephen King.
He began his career at the age of eight, appearing in Swedish films and television series. In 2001 he played Meekus in Zoolander, while in 2002 he starred in Hundtricket - The Movie, being nominated for a Guldbagge Award. In 2003 he made his directorial debut, co-directing the short film To Kill a Child with Björne Larson. In the following years he began working in international productions such as The Last Drop in 2005 by Colin Teague.
Success came in 2008 in the United States, after playing Sergeant Colbert in the acclaimed television miniseries Generation Kill , produced by the HBO television network. The miniseries is the result of the reconstruction of the stories and testimonies of a reporter and several US marines who experienced the war in Iraq on the front line.
In 2009 he took part in the video clip of Lady Gaga 's single Paparazzi.
Before filming Generation Kill wrapped, Skarsgård auditioned for the role of Bill Compton in the HBO television series True Blood , based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by American author Charlaine Harris . He was rejected for the role of Bill and was instead given the role of the powerful vampire Eric Northman. True Blood reached its seventh and final season in 2014. He won three Scream Awards for his role : Best Villain in 2009 and Best Horror Actor in 2010 and 2011. The cast also received a nomination at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
In 2011, she starred in the film Melancholia, directed by Lars von Trier, alongside Kirsten Dunst. The film was presented in France on 18 May 2011 at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. The same year, she appeared in Straw Dogs, a remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film of the same name, Straw Dogs, both based on Gordon Williams' novel The Siege of Trencher's Farm.
In April 2012, Battleship, directed by Peter Berg , was released in theaters, where Skarsgård plays the role of the brother of the protagonist Taylor Kitsch. In 2015, he took part in the film Hidden. In 2016, he played the role of Tarzan/John Clayton III in The Legend of Tarzan alongside Margot Robbie in the role of Jane.
In 2017, he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in the TV miniseries Big Little Lies; the role earned him an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and his first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Satellite Award.
